Just got a serger for my birthday today and I had to whip up something cute. Made this little pencil skirt in about 30 minutes! So quick and easy. I am going to become the serging master!

I combined the two and this is the result! I love it and can't wait to take it out for a night on the town. I am tempted to add some long straps so if I get that far I will definitely do another tutorial because I could not find any tutorials on a fold over bag with straps.

INSTRUCTIONS

Supplies

1/2 yard of fashion fabric

1/2 yard of lining

1/2 yard fusible interfacing

1 16" zipper

Step 1:

Cut 2 pieces of fashion fabric 13"X13"

Cut 2 pieces of lining fabric 13"X13"

Cut  2 pieces of fusible interfacing 13"X13"

 Step 2:

Fuse interfacing to fashion fabric

If you are using leather be sure to iron on back side of interfacing not on the leather side.

Step 3:

Pin zipper edge to fashion fabric, right sides together

(that means zipper front is facing down)

Step 4:

Pin lining to fashion fabric over zipper, right sides together.

 Step 5:

Using zipper foot sew along zipper edge

This is what you should have now.

 Step 6:

Do the same to the other side of the zipper

Remember to put zipper front towards fashion fabric and sandwich in the lining piece.

This is what you should have now.

 Step 7:

Open zipper half way

Pin right sides of fashion fabric together, lining will be on the outside.

Step 8:

Sew around the 3 edges

Tip: Sew 2 diagonal stitches at the corners,

this will help create a nice point when you flip it inside out.

Step 9:

Miter the corners

This helps reduce the bulk in the corners

Lace Sleeve Dress

I have been diggin the lace clothing trend and really wanted to make myself something for summer that had some lace.

My favorite magazine to take ideas from is Nylon Mag and I saw this lace dress on the cover... I love the simple solid color dress with the lace sleeves. I just had to have one for myself. To buy this $1488.00 dress check out Neiman Marcus Here.

I just threw on this fun wig to take some pics, cuz I didn't want to do my hair, but I am kinda lovin the golden-haired locks.  Should I make it permanent?

$300.00 Scarf Dress for only $20.00

I went to City Creek Center last week for the first time and fell in love with that mall. Now I can't wait to be done with finals so I can get back to the mall and do some shopping for summer. While I was at City Creek I went into BCBG and fell in love with this dress...

Only problem was I could not afford the $278.00 price tag. :(

That week in draping class it was a 'free drape' meaning we could make any item we wanted, so I decided to try and make my own version of this beautiful scarf dress. It was little more complicated than I had planned and there were a few hiccups along the way, but I forged through and this is the final result.

Dress has a square yoke front neckline, wide-princess seam lines with draped kimono style panels, drawstring waist with tie.

I purchased this fabric at Hancock's, they also have it in purple and greens. This dress was headache to make but I love how it turned out and I think I will make it again in the purple fabric.

New technique I learned while making this dress:

Sewing with Bias Tape. Believe it or not I have never used bias tape before. I originally made an armhole facing, but it was bulky so I swapped that for bias tape.

Bow good or bad?

Halter Top Turned Dress

This halter top I made for my Draping class. I draped it to fit my size 6 dress form. I loved how it turned

out, very Marilyn Monroe, don't you agree? The halter top is fully lined

with a gathered umpire waist.

After completing this assignment I really wanted to make myself this halter top but extend the length and turn it into a dress, that would be perfect for summer. I had to re-drape the top halter part of the pattern for my size and make some minor adjustments in the darts and seams, but overall it was fairly easy to convert to my body shape and size. Here is my dress in the works, it is almost done, I just need to hem it and do some finishing touches on the inside.

Here is the completed dress, just in time for spring! The main fabric is a sheer floral print chiffon with a mint green cotton lining.
